Vie de Martin de ToursSulpice SévèreMartin est né au début du IVe siècle. D'abord soldat, il reçoit le baptême et, peu de temps après, il quitte l'armée pour rejoindre Hilaire, évêque de Poitiers. Il fonde une communauté d'ascètes à Ligugé, près de Poitiers, puis devient évêque de Tours en 361. Il fonde alors un monastère à Marmoutier, tout près de Tours, car il veut rester moine, même dans sa charge d'évêque.Pendant vingt-cinq ans, il annonce partout la Bonne Nouvelle de Jés
